ABOUT US

Our company is based on the belief that our customers' needs are of the utmost importance. Carolyn Olberg, Certified Professional Guardian (CPG), takes her appointment by the Superior Court very seriously, by providing prudent decisions for people who can no longer formulate or communicate decisions for themselves.

She provides fiduciary services, trust and estate management, and guardianship services.

Her mission is to help individuals remain independent for as long as possible and to anticipate, address, and solve the numerous legal, financial, and personal problems that arise in the daily life of a person with limited health, mobility, or mental sharpness.

Carolyn graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA and after a career in art and design, she has been a financial advisor / planner for the past 15 years. She successfully completed the nine month certification program through the University of Washington in Guardianship and believes in staying current in a given field through continuing education courses.

I would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the industry.

WHAT ARE CPG SERVICES?

CPGs are not caregivers or family members, but serve in a professional capacity when family are unable to serve. Some CPGs also provide trust services or act as an attorney-in-fact under a power of attorney when appropriate.

CPGs "stand in the shoes" of persons who need assistance. Their professional training prepares them for advocacy and for making tough and complicated decisions. They can provide a first line of defense against exploitation and abuse of vulnerable adults.

CPGs typically charge hourly fees for the professional services they provide. Carolyn Olberg bills clients for time and services in accordance with her fee schedule, updated annually and approved by the court.

CPGs are required to comply with a host of certification requirements, including taking continuing education and carrying errors and omission insurance.

A Guardian Is Responsible For:
• Ensuring the client's living environment is safe and secure.
•Arranging for and consenting to medical treatment.
•Applying for public benefits if available.
• Ensuring the client receives appropriate nutrition and medication.
• Managing the financial affairs, including income, expenditures and resources.
• Arranging for in-home or other support services.
• Advocating for the client's preferences and needs.

WHAT ARE FIDUCIARY SERVICES?

Many people need assistance with their financial affairs, but they certainly don't need a guardian who has complete control. Rather, by having an attorney create a Power of Attorney and making Carolyn an Attorney-in-Fact, she can help you, your parents or a loved one manage their finances.

Fiduciary duties may include, but are not limited to: marshaling the clients' assets and income, identifying the liabilities and managing the disbursement of funds for ongoing bills, creating a budget that could support the client for the foreseeable future, assisting with insurance forms and other matters for the client, including confirming appropriate insurance coverage, and working with an investment advisor to preserve all assets.

The "Prudent Investor Act" spells out the fiduciary duty of people acting as trustees, reminding them that because they are trusted with the assets of others, they are held to a higher standard of behavior.

WHO NEEDS OUR SERVICES?
